2-Fluorobenzonitrile is an organic aromatic fluoride that is also known as o-fluorobenzonitrile. Organic aromatic fluoride is widely used in dyes, insecticides, medicine, and other industries. It is a crucial raw material and intermediary for the synthesis of fluorine-containing physiologically active compounds. Fluorine-containing compounds in medicine offer the advantages of bright color and resistance to fading following the addition of fluorine atoms, as well as low dosage, good selectivity, and high efficacy when compared to other compounds.

Method of preparation: Fill the microwave reactor with 6.88g (50 mmol) of o-chlorobenzonitrile, 11.6g (200 mmol) of KF, 20 ml of sulfolane, and 2.1 g (5 mmol) of tetraphenylphosphonium bromide in that order. Heat the reactor with 300 W of power, then use GC to follow the Chemicalbook reaction. The reaction ends when the raw material content is less than 5%. After four hours of reaction at 180°C, the microwave stops the reaction. After the reaction solution is brought to room temperature, vacuum filtering is used to remove the insoluble solid. 2-fluorobenzonitrile is the result of distilling the filtrate at a lower pressure. ultimate yield of 74.6% on 4.56g.
