product-1-1
2,4-Difluorotoluene Synthesis

Add concentrated hydrochloric acid (40 ml) to a 250 ml three-necked reaction flask covered with solid paraffin film. Cool to 0°C. Add 2,4-diaminotoluene (12.2 g, 0.1 mol) and stir to dissolve. Add 40% fluoboric acid (80 ml, 0.5 mol). Stir thoroughly. Add NaNO: (25 g, 0.36 mol) water (40 ml) solution dropwise. Keep the internal temperature below 0 cc. The addition should be finished in 1 to 2 hours. Continue stirring at a low temperature for 0.5 hours. Use potassium iodide-starch test paper to determine the end point. Sulfamic acid can be used to eliminate excess NaNO. Following suction filtering, the filter cake was cleaned using ether (50 ml×2), cold fluoroboric acid (50 ml), ethanol-water solution (1:1), v/v) (50 ml), and 95% ethanol solution (50 ml). Vacuum dry (no heat) after letting it dry.

The result was a white solid (18.4 g, 75.5%). The diazonium salt of bisfluoroborate (24.5g, 0.1mol) prepared above should be added to a 50ml round-bottomed flask in a fume hood. It should be connected to a distillation device and a BF gas absorption device. A small fire should be used initially, followed by a strong fire. The reaction bottle should be heated to break down the bisfluoroboric acid diazonium salt until all of the breakdown products have evaporated. A colorless liquid (5.5g, 42.5%) with a refractive index of 1.4486 and a content of 98.5% (GC) was obtained by extracting the distillate using methylene chloride, washing it with 10% NaOH solution (10ml×2) and water (20ml×2) in that order, drying it over calcium chloride, fractionating it under normal pressure, and collecting the products at 110 to 120°C.
