Application

 

The target compound 1,3,5-trifluorobenzene was created using a fluoro reaction with anhydrous potassium fluoride and a phase transfer catalyst, using 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene as the starting material.

Technique 1.

Fill the reaction bottle with the solvent, anhydrous potassium fluoride, phase transfer catalyst, and crude 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene. Turn the heat up to reflux and let the mixture react for 6–14 hours. Following the completion of the reaction, water is added to the residue for steam distillation, and the solvent is eliminated by distillation at a lower pressure. Petroleum ether (between 60°C and 90°C) is used to extract the distillate. Following the removal of petroleum ether using rotary evaporation, 1,3,5-trifluorobenzene, the target product, is gathered through reduced pressure distillation.
