Pentafluorobenzonitrile is a white powder in the form of crystals. The following is the current report on the synthesis technique of pentafluorobenzonitrile: To make pentafluorobenzonitrile, combine pentafluoriodobenzene and cuprous cyanide as raw materials, react in pyridine at 150°C for a few minutes, let cool somewhat, and then distill under low pressure. Reactions between pentabromobenzonitrile and potassium fluoride, cuprous cyanide, and fluorination, all occurred in the pressure kettle's nitrile solvent at 300°C for 20 minutes. Pentachlorobenzonitrile, potassium fluoride, and pentachlorobenzonitrile undergo a solvent-free fluorination reaction in a pressure kettle to produce the final product in a matter of hours. Potassium fluoride and pentachlorobenzonitrile are made in React for eighteen hours at 315°C in the benzonitrile solvent in the autoclave without adding a catalyst. A step-by-step procedure can also be used in similar circumstances to generate the pure pentafluorobenzonitrile product with a yield of 75.5% after cooling, filtering, and distilling the mother liquor.
