Application

4-Fluorophenol shares chemical characteristics with phenol and can be utilized as an aromatic compound or as a derivative of phenol. It can combine with bases or acids to create the appropriate salts. When an oxidant is applied, it can go through an oxidation reaction and produce the appropriate phenolphthalein chemical.
One equivalent of p-fluorophenylboronic acid (122 mg, 1 mmol), two equivalents of 30% H2O2 (227 mg, 2 mmol), and ten milligrams of catalyst should be combined with three milliliters of water in a dry 10 mL reactor. After a while of stirring the resultant reaction mixture at room temperature, the reaction's advancement was observed using a TLC spot plate. The reaction mixture was immediately extracted with diethyl ether and water when the reaction was finished, the organic layer was separated, dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the dryness was removed by filtering. In order to acquire the target product molecule 4-fluorophenol, the residue left over after the filtrate is concentrated can be separated and purified using silica gel column chromatography (5% ethyl acetate dissolved in petroleum ether). The solvent is then removed by rotary evaporation under decreased pressure.

P-fluorophenol (5 g, 4.6 mmol) and epichlorohydrin (16.5 g, 178.4 mmol 13) were combined with 100 ml of anhydrous acetone in a dry reactor, and the reaction took place in 10 minutes. After adding anhydrous K2CO3 (24.0 g, 178.4 mmol) to the mixture, reflux was heated to a high temperature and the reaction was agitated for eighteen hours. TLC tracked the whole consumption of p-fluorophenol using a 4:1 hexane:ether ratio. The insoluble precipitate is immediately removed from the reaction mixture by filtering it after the reaction is finished. To produce a pale yellow oil, the filtrate is concentrated while the pressure is lowered. After the surplus epichlorohydrin is evaporated, the target product molecule is extracted from the residue using silica gel column chromatography.
