Methyl 2-fluoroacrylate is synthesized by three primary pathways:

1) Making use of 2-fluoropropionate as the precursor. Under conditions of free radical initiation, bromine is combined with liquid bromine to produce 2-fluoro-2-bromopropionic acid methyl ester, which is subsequently used to prevent polymerization in 1,8-diazabicyclo-5,4-undec-7-ene (DBU). An agent is present during the dehydrobromination process. By fluorinating 2-chloro, 2-bromo, and 2-hydroxypropionate, the raw material for 2-fluoropropionate can be produced.
2) As the starting material, use 2-fluoromalonate dimethyl ester. To get 2-fluoroacrylic acid methyl ester, first hydroxymethylate it using formaldehyde in an alkaline environment, and then decarboxylate it at a high temperature. This method's raw materials are reasonably easy to obtain, but its industrialization prospects are also limited by issues including low raw material utilization rate, poor atom economy, and how to properly use the by-products created.

3) Methyl fluoropropionate derivatives are utilized as basic materials. These derivatives have no industrial value, are expensive, and are challenging to produce.
