In the chemical structure of 2,3,4-trifluorobenzoic acid, there is one carboxyl unit and three fluorine atoms. The addition of fluorine atoms or fluorine-containing groups (particularly CF3 groups) can alter a compound's lipid solubility, activity, acidity, and alkalinity. As a result, 2,3,4-trifluorobenzoic acid is frequently utilized in the synthesis and structural modification of pharmaceutical compounds.

Thirty-five L of dry tetrahydrofuran, ten kg (56.8 mol) of 2,3,4-trifluorobenzoic acid (TFBA), and thirteen kg (51.3 mol) of 2-chloro-4-iodoaniline (CIA) were added to a corrosion-resistant reactor. Next, put 20 L of tetrahydrofuran and 4.0 kg (174 mol) of lithium amide in another dry reactor. Move the mixture from the initial reactor to the lithium amide slurry and mix the reaction at 35 ± 10 °C until a distinct color shift is noticed and gas is no longer released.
Subsequently, the reaction was agitated for approximately 4 hours at a temperature of 50 ± 5 °C in the reaction system. 50 L of acetonitrile was added to the reaction mixture to dilute it once the reaction was finished. Next, quench the solution with a mixed solution made of 20 kg of 35% HCl water and 100 L of water. Reduce the temperature of the reaction mixture gradually to 0 ± 5 °C. Filter the solid product and wash the filter cake with 10 L of water and 40 kg of acetonitrile. Finally, wash the filter cake with 50 L of water to extract the desired product molecule.
