4-Methoxymethyl-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzyl alcohol is a pesticide that has been used in the control of fleas and ticks. It is an organic compound with a structural formula CH2OCHF2CF3. 4MMTFB inhibits the production of pyrethroid esters by reacting with the hydroxyl group on the pyrethroid molecule. The reaction system used in this synthetic process is an organic solvent (e.g., methanol) and an inorganic base (e.g., lithium carbonate). The reaction yield for this process is about 100%. 4MMTFB reacts with a chloride ion to generate a chloromethylated product that can be used as a pesticide or as an intermediate for other pesticides during the synthesis process.
