Application

Perfluorobutanesulfonyl fluoride is heated and alkalinely hydrolyzed in an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution to produce potassium perfluorobutanesulfonate. Thus, the secret to making potassium perfluorobutanesulfonate is perfluorobutanesulfonyl fluoride.

The following procedures are involved in the manufacture of potassium
perfluorobutanesulfonate: Perfluorobutanesulfonyl fluoride is produced by electrolyzing
cyclobutene sulfone in hydrogen fluoride, while perfluorobutanol is produced by passing
perfluorobutanesulfonyl fluoride through potassium hydroxide, calcium oxide, water, and
ethanol. The raw material for making cyclobutenyl sulfone, butadiene, is inexpensive and
readily available, and potassium sulfonate has a straightforward and quick synthesis
procedure with a high yield and good product quality. Potassium sulfonate has a lower
preparation cost and may be produced industrially.
